Every DSC has a defined validity period after which it expires. Understanding this is important for planning renewals and avoiding business disruption.
Standard Validity Periods
2-year validity is the standard option. 3-year validity offers better per-year value. Validity starts from issuance date, not first use.
What Happens When Your DSC Expires?
It becomes non-functional immediately. You cannot sign documents, file tax returns, submit GST, or participate in e-tendering. Documents signed before expiry remain valid. Only new signatures are affected.
How to Check Expiry Date
Insert your USB token, open token management software, and check the "Valid To" date. Or check via Windows Internet Options > Content > Certificates.
Renewal Process
Submit renewal application, complete fresh video KYC, receive new certificate on your token. Takes 30 minutes to 1 hour. We send reminders at 30, 15, and 7 days before expiry. Read our renewal guide.
Can I Renew Early?
Yes, but new validity starts from renewal date, not old expiry. We recommend renewing in the last 15-30 days.
